Now that the New Year is well under way, most of us over the age of 20 have vowed to lose weight in 2009. Or, at least, have made a resolution to be healthier.
At the end of each year, the media bombards us with weight loss program ads, and generally contribute to the burdening feeling that yes, we have overindulged a bit over the holidays. Without dramatically changing your lifestyle, there are a few simple diet tips that will help achieve your goal of having a more fit body and lifestyle.
Eat Breakfast
Be sure to eat breakfast every morning. While most dieters make the mistake of skipping breakfast, with the belief that they are cutting calories to promote weight loss, the truth is that the body is still resting until it ingests its first meal of the morning. Eating a reasonable breakfast will kick the metabolism into high gear for the day, and help maintain your energy while burning off the leftover calories from the previous evening.
Be Consistent with Breakfast and Lunch
Most people who successfully lose weight find that eating the same meal each morning at breakfast time helps get them into a routine that includes making healthy choices when selecting meal items throughout the rest of the day. A simple breakfast of low-fat yogurt, a high fiber cereal with skim milk, and a glass of orange juice will satisfy your early day dietary requirements for grains, fiber and calcium.
The same strategy goes for the lunchtime meal also. Consistently having the same meal at lunchtime during the course of your diet dateline, in addition to the patterned daily meal at breakfast, will allow you to calculate the amount of fat and calories you are consuming for the first half of the day only once, rather than continually being concerned with everything that goes into your mouth. For lunch, have a whole grain bread sandwich with roasted lean meat, a slice of cheese, fresh fruit, and skim milk.
Most people who have tried different diet plans throughout their lives will say that after awhile, they just lose the motivation to keep up with the regimen of the plan. The frustrations associated with dieting usually arise from having to be conscious of everything you eat all day, every day.
While many of the most popular weight loss programs promote this method and encourage their clients to make a lifestyle change that includes counting points for the rest of their lives, most will find that they regain the weight after leaving the program.
By simplifying the breakfast and lunchtime meals, and snacking on fresh fruits and vegetables, you will only have to be concerned with counting calories and fat content for one meal each day. This simple change in meal planning, in addition to adopting a 20 minute walk three times a week to aid in losing weight, will be the catalyst that will get you over the barriers of dieting that will bring you to your weight loss goals for 2009.
